About The School for Dogs

The School for Dogs is a full service dog training business serving Central and Southwest Virginia. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality dog training that is always tailored to meet the needs of the individual client.

The training at The School for Dogs builds confidence in the dog and the owner. We teach the dog what is expected of them and teach the owner what to expect from the dog.

Heather Haudenshield and her staff have 16 years of combined experience training dogs in Search & Rescue, Schutzhund, Police K9, and obedience. Prior to establishing The School for Dogs, Heather earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Animal Behavior, from James Madison University.

At The School for Dogs our training is based on Animal Behavior and Applied Learning Theory. Our approach is realistic and produces a dog that is reliable and consistent in its performance. So whether you’re looking for basic pet obedience, behavior modification or advance training in obedience, tracking or protection we have the ability to meet your needs.
